Kids Church for Sunday, April 19, 2020
Hey, everyone! I’m so glad you’re joining us "virtually" again this weekend, though I do wish we could meet in person instead.
Nonetheless, we will continue this month's series called Upside Down, by learning about how WE can turn things upside down with humility!
Humility is putting others first by giving up what you think you deserve.
Humility is kind of upside down from the way things usually go. It’s like living in an opposite world. Usually we tend to think ‘me first’ instead of ‘you first.’ But humility flips that around. Humility means that we find a way to put others first instead of just thinking about ourselves.
And to continue our theme, we see that Jesus gave us the greatest example of humility by living His life in a way that seemed opposite of what people expected. Even as the all-powerful Son of God, He came to serve.
Last Sunday was Easter, and we celebrated the fact that Jesus came to be our Savior. He died on the cross for our sins, and then He came back to life! Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection changed the way everything works—including the way we see others and the way we treat them.
The apostle Paul explained this in a letter we call the book of Philippians. Paul was writing to people in the town of Philippi who were followers of Jesus. This week we will learn how Paul encouraged the people back then, and us today, to choose to put others first because JESUS put us first. We can choose to value them and think about what THEY need—not just what WE need.
It's not easy to humble ourselves to serve others. In fact, if we’re honest, it’s a lot easier for us to ignore the people around us who need help. But God can help us serve others with humility—like Jesus did.
In Psalm 28:7, David wrote: The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him (NIrV).
Let’s begin this week's virtual Kids Church by singing and praising God. Then, continue with the Bible Story video appropriate for your child's age. And lastly, use the attached supplemental pdfs, for review and continued discipleship.
Big hugs from Ms. Lucie and Ms. Margo.
